Team Captains

SnowStar Ski Team will again be implementing a team captain structure this season.   All Ski Team members will receive a ballot with a slate of candidates for team captain. Two male and two female team captains will be elected by their peers and serve for one season.

 

The criteria for eligible candidates for Team Captain are:

  • Must be a competing racer
  • Must be 14 yrs. of age
  • Must have 3 yrs. experience with the team
  • Must be willing, by parent confirmation, to hold the position

 

The responsibilities of the Team Captains are as follows:

  • General Responsibilities
  • Be an Ambassador for SnowStar at all times
  • Make yourself known to all racers, parents and coaches
  • Be a point of communication with coaching staff
  • Emphasize safety at all times
  • Model sportsmanlike behavior – lead by example
  • Positive support for racers and parents
  • Look for ways to be helpful at all times
  • Assist with questions, gear, service
  • Option to attend Ski Team Board Meetings

  • Practice Responsibilities
  • Greet team and parents in the lodge during practice prep
  • Organize Warm-ups
  • Get a headcount at each practice
  • Provide the coaching agenda during warm-ups
  • Help and help organize Course Setup and Tear down
  • Organize the team for skate

i.e. One captain demo’s skate to top, second skates 2/3 up, 3rd skates 1/3 up 4th starts skaters – all captains coach and encourage skaters

  • Pull the team together at the top @ 8:05 pm for practice wrap-up
  • One captain should arrive to each practice 15 minutes early

 

  • Race Day Responsibilities
  • Greet team and parents in the lodge during race prep
  • Roust racers to course inspection
  • Coordinate with Coach during Course Inspection
  • Be aware of the inspection detail in case questions are asked
  • Look for the newer racers/parents that may need direction or support
  • Support teammates during race line-up
  • Encourage free skiing between racers
